Frederick Bailey Deeming

Frederick Deeming was bornon 30th July 1853 (though this date does differ to 1842) in Ashby - de - la - Zouche. He ran away from home at 16 to become a seaman, where he quickly gained a reputation for being a thief and a fraudster (obtaining monies by deception).

The details of where he lived, and when he married his first wife Marie James are a little sketchy, but he is known to have lived in Australia, South Africa, and England.

It was in England in February 1890 that already having three children with his first wife, he had a bigamous marriage to Helen Matheson whom he later deserted and returned to his first wife Marie.

A fourth child was born and the family lived in Denham Villa (Lawton Road Rainhill) until his family disapeared in July 1891.

He soon moved back to Australia where he married Emily Mather in September of the same year. His wife disapeared again and in December Frederick left the house.

The landlady of the house was showing people around the house when a horrible smell was noticed in the dining room, when the landlady learned from the neighbours of the dissapearence of Emilly she notified the police. When the floorboards where lifted the body of Emily was discovered. A trail of clues led them back to Denham Villa where the floor was also lifted, this time though they found his wife and their four children.

Frederick Deeming was eventually caught in March 1892 in Perth Western Australia. Newspaper stories claimed he had said he was Jack The Ripper.

At his trial he claimed insanity - though this was dismissed. He hanged on Monday the 23rd May 1892.

Note:- the internet has many versions of Frederick Deeming, I suggest you research this further rather than taking my words as fact, as accounts vary about his birthday, where he lived, and whom he married when.
